The Environment Agency subsequently confirmed that as per its guidance, spent convictions are not relevant to the match and proper person check. Accordingly, there was no demand for Red Industries to disclose such data.


On twenty two April, The Independent asked Red Industries if Mr Share was a fit and proper person to be leading the corporate however it failed to respond directly to the question.


In an announcement at the time it said it had “voluntarily curtailed operations to accelerate an intensive capping programme which will seal a considerable and intensive area of the location.”


It added that no hazardous waste was accepted at the landfill that would stop operations in 2026.


In a statement on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the corporate said, in response to Mr Bell’s letter: “As a company we tend to don't inquire into private correspondence.”
